Apple reportedly asked some suppliers to cut component production for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, according to Nikkei Asia, as reported by MacRumors, 9to5Mac, Notebookcheck, and SamMobile. The move follows lower-than-expected consumer demand.
October component orders were cut by at least 15% versus the original request, and one supply chain executive put the reduction at 15-20% for both premium models. The reports point to sharply rising memory chip costs that forced Apple to raise prices, which dampened demand. TrendForce said memory costs rose 400% since last year's model.
The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 and the Pro Max at $1,299, $100 more than the models they replace. In Germany, the iPhone 18 Pro 256GB costs around EUR 1,450 and the Pro Max around EUR 1,600, each EUR 150 more than its predecessor at launch. Nikkei noted part of the reduction may relate to Apple's split launch schedule: only the iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, and foldable iPhone Duo launched in September, with the regular iPhone 18 and a new iPhone Air expected in spring 2027. One source expects a similar fate for the iPhone Duo after release.
For buyers, the iPhone 18 Pro is unlikely to become scarce soon, with Amazon selling both models with immediate availability, and falling prices are not expected. Samsung is also reportedly cutting production, with Q4 2026 output down as much as 30% and 2026 production projected at 200 million phones versus 270 million earlier.
In Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, the iPhone 18 Pro is available at 120,555 EGP at Noon, 8,699 SAR at Jarir, and 5,599 AED at Noon. Since prices are high and no drop is expected, those who want it now can buy from these stores, while those waiting for a price cut may not see one soon based on the reports.
