According to a Notebookcheck report, the Poco F9 Ultra uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 with improved cooling, but its MSRP is about a third higher than its predecessor.
- Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is the same chip used in the Poco F8 Ultra.
- MSRP is about a third higher than the previous generation.
- Significantly improved cooling allows it to pass 3DMark stress tests with ease.
- Poco cites rising memory prices and economic constraints for the decision.
- Availability in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, or the UAE has not been announced.
A report published by Notebookcheck states that the Poco F9 Ultra uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, the same chip found in the Poco F8 Ultra. This marks the first time Poco has skipped a chip generation since the F8 Ultra.
Poco attributes this decision to economic constraints, especially a sharp rise in memory prices. The company noted that switching to Qualcomm's next high-end platform would have driven costs even higher.
Reportedly, the F9 Ultra's MSRP is about a third higher than that of its predecessor. It is not yet clear whether the phone will be available in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, or the UAE.
The phone is expected to maintain better performance under prolonged load thanks to an improved cooling system. While the F8 Ultra had a more pronounced performance drop, the F9 Ultra passes 3DMark stress tests with ease, though it accepts higher surface temperatures.
The report notes that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 remains one of the most powerful smartphone chips.
