MobiArabia ·

If you're looking for a foldable phone, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 and Xiaomi 18 Fold might be on your radar. Both offer a different foldable experience, but which one suits you? In this comparison, we break down what each phone offers and what it lacks, based on the available specs.

1Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8: Lightweight and Powerful

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 is aimed at those who want a lightweight, easy-to-carry foldable phone. Weighing just 201 g, it's the lightest foldable phone in the world, making it comfortable for daily use. It runs on the powerful and customized Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset, with displays boasting 3000 nits brightness and a 120Hz refresh rate, delivering a smooth and clear viewing experience even in bright light.

The dual 50 MP rear camera with 8K video recording gives you high-quality photography. However, it's important to know that the phone does not support the S Pen or FlexMode, two features some users might miss. Also, the battery capacity is only 4800 mAh, and wired charging is only 25W, which may not satisfy those who want long battery life or fast charging.

The price in Egypt starts at 128,999 EGP at 2B, in Saudi Arabia from 6,999 SAR, and in the UAE from 4,849 AED. If lightness and strong performance are your priority, it's a good choice, but be prepared to compromise on some features.

2Xiaomi 18 Fold: Huge Battery and Advanced Camera

Xiaomi 18 Fold

The Xiaomi 18 Fold is aimed at those who want a large battery and a powerful camera in a foldable phone. It comes with a 6000 mAh silicon-carbon battery, along with 67W wired and 50W wireless charging, providing long usage time and fast charging. The triple rear camera includes a 200 MP main camera with OIS, a 50 MP ultrawide camera, and a 50 MP periscope camera with 3.5x optical zoom and OIS, giving you great flexibility in photography.

It runs on the Xring O3 chipset built on 3nm with 10 cores and a 200 TOPS NPU, making it powerful for advanced tasks. The design is slim and relatively light: 5.02 mm unfolded and only 219 g. But there are drawbacks to note: the phone is exclusively available in the Chinese market, its price starts at 10,999 Chinese yuan, and there is no memory card slot.

For Egypt, there is no store price yet, but there is an estimate of about 91,700 EGP based on the official US price before Egyptian taxes. If you're in China or can import it, it might be a tempting option, but it's not officially available in the Gulf or Egypt currently.

Verdict

Your choice between the two depends on your priorities and where you are. If you want a lightweight foldable phone that's officially available in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, with strong performance and a bright display, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 is the right choice, despite its smaller battery, slower charging, and lack of S Pen and FlexMode support. If you're in China or can import the phone, and prefer a huge battery, advanced camera, and fast charging, the Xiaomi 18 Fold offers tempting specs, but it's not officially available in the region and costs more. In short: Samsung for official availability and lightness, Xiaomi for better battery and camera if you can handle the availability challenge.
