This is based on leaks and reports and hasn't been confirmed by the maker. Details may change at launch.

A new leak outlines the expected specifications of Apple's A20 chip, which is reportedly set to power the base iPhone 18 next year.

Key points
  • A20 leak based on a solder ball map, analyzed by Weibo user 白饭炒白米饭.
  • Estimated die size: 70-80 mm², smaller than A19 (82.8 mm²) and A20 Pro (98.80 mm²).
  • TSMC N2 process, traditional PoP memory, and lower clock speed than A20 Pro's 4.93 GHz.
  • 5-core GPU, CPU with 2 super cores and 4 efficiency cores, L2 caches 50% less than A20 Pro.
  • System-level cache may grow to 16 MB, 96-bit memory bus, dual 16-core Neural Engine.

Notebookcheck reported on a leak of Apple's standard A20 chip, the scaled-down version of the A20 Pro, based on a leaked solder ball map.

Weibo user 白饭炒白米饭 analyzed the map and estimated the layout of each chip. All figures are speculation, not confirmed specifications.

The A20 is said to be built on TSMC's N2 process, like the A20 Pro. The A20 Pro's bare die measures 98.80 mm²; the A20 is estimated at 70 to 80 mm², smaller than the A19 at 82.8 mm².

The A20 still appears to use traditional package-on-package (PoP) memory, not the WMCM packaging of the A20 Pro. The A20 Pro reaches a 4.93 GHz clock speed; the A20 is expected to clock considerably lower.

The GPU is expected to be a 5-core design with limited clock speeds, a two-core deficit versus the Pro. The CPU keeps two super cores and four efficiency cores, with an expected 8 MB shared L2 for super cores and 4 MB for efficiency cores, both 50% less than the A20 Pro.

The system-level cache may grow from the A19's 12 MB to 16 MB to serve on-device AI. The dual 16-core Neural Engine would remain the same as the A20 Pro's, with a dedicated 4 MB cache. The memory interface is expected to be upgraded to a 96-bit bus, matching the Pro.

The A20 is expected to power the base iPhone 18 next year. The article is dated 10/01/2026.
