What is 4K / 8K video and fps?
4K and 8K are high video resolutions, while fps is the number of frames per second that determines motion smoothness.
4K refers to a horizontal resolution of around 4000 pixels (commonly 3840×2160), while 8K roughly doubles that (7680×4320). Higher resolution means more detail and sharper images. FPS (frames per second) measures video smoothness: 30fps is fine for everyday recording, while 60fps or 120fps gives smoother motion, especially in games or slow-motion clips.
In daily use, 4K video gives you a clearer picture on a large screen or when you zoom in during editing. 8K is still rare but allows heavy cropping without losing quality. Higher fps makes motion look more realistic in games and sports clips, but it uses more battery and storage.
When buying, look for a phone that supports at least 4K at 30fps or 60fps, and ideally 120fps for slow motion. The screen matters too: a 60Hz refresh rate is good, while 90Hz or 120Hz feels smoother when scrolling. You don't need 8K unless you're a pro or want to crop heavily. Make sure you have enough storage, as 4K and 8K files take up a lot of space.
