Apple officially announced the new generation of the iPad mini, describing it as the biggest update the device has ever received. The announcement came in a press release dated October 26, 2026.
The new model has an 8.5-inch OLED Super Retina XDR display with bezels 24 percent narrower while keeping the same compact size as the previous generation. Peak brightness reaches 1,200 nits, more than double the previous generation, with 600 nits full-screen brightness for SDR and HDR content, a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio and a minimum brightness of 1 nit. A nanotexture glass option is available to reduce glare in bright environments.
The device is 5.4 mm thin, thinner and lighter than before, and comes in Midnight and Starlight, with IP67 water and dust resistance. It runs on the A20 Pro chip built on a 2-nanometer process, with a 7-core GPU with Neural Accelerators, up to a 6-core CPU, AI performance up to 4.5x faster and graphics up to 2.7x faster than the previous generation. The 512GB configuration has a dual 16-core Neural Engine that uses all 32 cores.
It has a 12MP Center Stage front camera on the landscape edge, a 12MP wide rear camera with Smart HDR 4, 4K video up to 60 fps and an Adaptive True Tone flash. It introduces an Acoustic Display audio system, and includes the Apple N1 wireless chip with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread, plus the C2 cellular modem, which is up to 50 percent faster than the previous generation and supports eSIM. It ships with iPadOS 27 and next-generation Apple Intelligence, and iPadOS 27.2 adds an extended display mode for external screens.
Pre-orders start Wednesday, October 28, and the device is available from Friday, November 6. Apple did not mention prices in its announcement.
The new iPad mini is not yet sold in Egypt or the Gulf, and no local store prices have been announced. MobiArabia will add store prices when it arrives, so buyers deciding now can wait for the new model or consider the current generation available locally.
