Mark Gurman says Apple's iPhone Duo 2 prototypes include Face ID, possibly built under the outer screen, but nothing is confirmed yet.

Mark Gurman said on his Power On podcast that prototypes of the iPhone Duo 2 inside Apple include Face ID, with the sensor reportedly integrated beneath the display on the outer screen.

The first-generation iPhone Duo used Touch ID instead of Face ID, which drew criticism from early reviewers. 9to5Mac's Chance Miller described the missing Face ID as the hardest thing to get used to on the foldable.

According to the report, fitting Face ID into the very thin enclosure was the main obstacle for the first model. Apple has been working on shrinking Face ID components, as seen with the under-display IR camera on the iPhone 18 Pro.

Gurman suggests the IR camera and flood illuminator could both move behind the screen on the iPhone Duo 2 and the twentieth-anniversary iPhone Pro. He notes that testing the technology does not guarantee it will ship in next year's revision, and Face ID could slip to the iPhone Duo 3 if development falls behind. He also said employees have explored bringing the Action button to a future iPhone Duo, though he is less confident about that, and it is unclear whether Apple would drop the power-button Touch ID sensor or keep both biometric methods.

There are no store prices or launch details for the iPhone Duo 2 in Egypt, Saudi Arabia or the UAE yet, and it is not confirmed for those markets. MobiArabia will add local store prices when they appear.
